Most businesses don't think too hard about who cleans the office. Bakers Delight isn't most businesses. Here's how EarthWize earned that trust, told by three of the people closest to it.

01 · THE FIT

Sustainability you can actually measure

Bakers Delight stood up a dedicated sustainability function to do more with less and get ahead of the reporting that's coming for businesses like theirs. It traces back to the same value that runs through everything they do: do what's right.

EarthWize cleans both sites with a water-based system that turns ordinary tap water into a sanitiser, then settles back to water. No packaged chemicals shipped in, far less plastic, none of the harsh residues.

Staff would occasionally develop dermatitis, and the first thing a doctor asked for was the safety data sheets. Chemical-free cleaning takes that risk off the table at the source.

02 · THE SWITCH

Cleaning you can count on

Angela's brief is easy to say and hard to deliver: make sure everyone who walks into the Melbourne office finds a space that's clean, safe and good to be in. The provider before EarthWize made that harder than it should have been, running contractors who were barely on site and nowhere near the hours the program had promised.

Cost mattered, as it always does. But what Angela really wanted was a cleaner she didn't have to chase, from a company whose values matched Bakers Delight's own. When EarthWize proposed chemical-free cleaning she was politely sceptical, the way plenty of people are, until she saw it work.

She's happy to report that the program is actually being followed, the complaints have quietened down, and the most obvious change is what's missing. The harsh chemical smell that used to hang around the office and kitchen is gone.

03 · THE PEOPLE

The cleaner who became part of the team

Plenty of cleaning contracts send a rotating cast of strangers through your building. Bakers Delight gets the opposite. The same crew cleans both sites, and Ben looks after the head office and the test bakery.

That continuity does real work. Ben knows both spaces and has built a relationship with the team, so small issues get spotted and sorted early instead of getting lost between different people. Each week he also brings feedback on how to make the partnership run better.

04 · THE CAUSE

Nearly 26 years of raising money for Breast Cancer Network Australia

Somewhere along the way, doing the right thing by the community became as much a part of Bakers Delight as the bread itself. Almost 26 years ago, founders Roger and Lesley decided the business should get behind a cause and do some real good with the platform they'd built. Angela, who's been with the company for 24 years, explains how that decision turned into one of Bakers Delight's longest-running partnerships.

The company tried Red Nose first, but the campaign never quite caught on with franchisees. Pink Bun did. It struck a chord with bakeries and their communities in a way Red Nose hadn't, and Bakers Delight leaned into it. What started as one campaign has grown every year since. Bakeries across the country now run Pink Bun every May, and together they've raised millions of dollars for BCNA.

It's a partnership built by people who wanted to give back, sustained by a network of franchisees who kept showing up for it.
